is an interactive game that satirizes the gamification of dating apps.
Players enter through a wall of AI-generated profiles before receiving their premise via jarring voiceover: you've just had a promising date and need to text them to follow up. After composing a message, the game shifts into a dark screen where green and red iMessage bubbles fall like rain, including the text you've just sent. Green bubbles mark (ironically) positive messages to collect; red bubbles are toxic flags accelerating downward. Avoid the red flags or get ghosted. The escalating chaos mirrors the arbitrary anxiety of online dating, where one wrong move ends everything.
Coded on p5.js. 2023. Play by clicking the square to the left, using arrow keys to move around, and spacebar for sound.
Inspired by the ghosted game, I created a satirical interactive simulation of an online reCAPTCHA test. What happens when subject matter transcends traffic lights and cats and becomes existential, to reflect a culture of late capitalism? Is this a reverse Turing test, in which humans have to imitate machines in their categorization?
The player is taken through three rounds of image-based reCAPTCHA tests that get progressively harder to answer. The images were generated using Midjourney. To play, click the square to the right and press the space bar to enter.
